What is a Nomad?

Personally I have been a Nomad all my life. That is not to say I am homeless, but I don't have a permanent "abode." I have moved around all my life, I lived in Indonesia until 1998 when I was forced to move away to Singapore due to the riots. I spent about 1 and a half years there before heading back to Indonesia for a short 4 years.

At 12 years old I found myself moving yet again to Australia, living there for almost a decade. This was home for me, it really was. But like all things good, it had to end. I moved back to Indonesia to chase a dream, to be a doctor. After almost 6 years in University, I graduated and am now a Doctor. But I'm still in limbo. I don't have a permanent home. But like I always say, "The only thing constant is change."

Through my life I've traveled to the States, Australia, Europe, China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia. There are still a million places I'd love to travel but I'd say I've lived a fortunate life.

Every time I travel I try to immerse myself in the culture and also try and meet new people. It's safe to say I've made some life-long friends along the way.

The idea for Bohemian Nomads came to me when I was in Liberec, a small town in the Czech Republic. After hearing the word Bohemian all my life, I never understood what it meant. Until I was in the Czech Republic. The word gets a bad connotation, but essentially it's a person with unconventional social habits. Of which I'm told I have. I often feel like I'm alone in the world, with little to no emotional ties and strives in literary pursuits. Bohemianism is a way of life that I have discovered a lot of people live. Though since it does have a bad connotation, I refer to people who travel around as Nomads instead of Bohemians.

I heard the quote "Not all those who wander, are lost." And this resonated with me a lot. I found that being in one place for too long, or continually living a life of mundane routines, it drives me crazy. The only thing that essentially fills the hole in my life is traveling. A sense of adventure to know that whatever happens next is an unique experience I can never get again.

Traveling doesn't have to be extravagant either, nor expensive. It can be just as simple as taking a road trip a town away or across the country. The sense of fulfilment I get, and I'm sure a lot of people get in traveling is why it is a popular industry.

So welcome to Bohemian Nomads. I hope the content of this site will help those who are traveling and give insight to new places and adventures to go.
